* PhD research: Biology and behavioral ecology of some ant species of the genus Thaumatomyrmex (Insecta, Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Ponerinae, Thaumatomyrmecini) (six different species collected in eight habitats in Brazil and Costa Rica): nidification (behaviour of nidification and nests characteristics in function of the habitat and species); predation (real specialization on the millipedes Penicillata (Myriapoda, Diplopoda)?); colonial structure (micro-colony); strategies of reproduction (gamergates vs gynes and mono- vs polygyny in function of the habitat) and intra-group conflict (hierarchy); social recognition; defence strategy of the micro-colony.
These researches have as main goal the study of the implication of the biology of the genus Thaumatomyrmex in the comprehension of the evolution of the sociality in ants.
* Systematic and biogeography of Brazilian species of the ant genus Thaumatomyrmex (morphology and cytogenetic).
* Social evolution in ants and other insects.
* Passive defence of the nest in ants.
* Ecology and laying behavior of Neotropical Penicillata (Myriapoda, Diplopoda). |
